What I’m Up To
Language (learning) is (not so) complex.
Languages are social and informational systems that humans both pick up naturally and struggle with learning. Linguistic principles help demystify them, and can make for faster, more effective, and more efficient development of ability with a new language. I talk about all of this on my YouTube channel, @TonyTheLinguist.
I help connect PhD students to careers after they graduate.
As Co-President of the Stanford Advanced Degree Consulting Club, I’m making sure that my fellow grad students can find a way to put their research, communication, and problem-solving skills to work, even outside academia.
As Founder and Co-President of re:think, I help expose humanities grad students and postdocs to personal connections, information, and opportunities to plan and forge their life paths.
I research the interactional uses of speeding up and slowing down.
How fast you talk has important uses—like conveying emotion, signaling turn-taking, and managing the information flow of conversation. I’m trying to find out how exactly it does all these things.
